I've been housebound with severe anxiety and Major Depressive Disorder for the better part of a year now and since I stopped venturing out for my daily doses of vitamin D, I've found myself at a loose end and £££'s richer now that I don't need the expensive sun creams.......(LOL, I wish! 🙄) Anyhoo...I have always been an avid reader and listener to Old Time Radio (OTR) shows, and through general browsing of T'internet, I discovered many a podcast that has the heart and soul of what made OTR so special; Great acting, great production, cool creepy music and sound effects, not to mention, great acting (or mediocre acting, the result still works) and I have turned what could possibly have remained the most sad and depressing chapter in my life into an ideal time to practice my relaxation techniques and revel in the creepy atmospherics of brilliantly written and produced podcasts!

I've never been a fan of TV (cut to scene at end of 'Poltergeist' with the TV being shoved out of the motel room) although if I do hear of a show that's worth watching, I will tune in specifically, or use one of the TV apps. I also love movies but that's what DVD's and computers were made for!

I digress, My personal favourites are Horror Podcasts that are told in a variety of styles from straightforward storytelling with evocative soundscapes to dramatic scenes acted out by a cast of players very much in-keeping with the Old Time Radio plays of days gone by. Most Podcasts are FREE, yes FREE! They are produced with passion and love for the respective genre, the stories/acting and production values are generally very good and it's for this reason and the fact that I LOVE a good scare, that I listen religiously. There are podcasts for every taste and interest,, running the gamut from Comedy to Lifestyle, Sci-Fi, Books, Food, Horror and anything else in between. I personally find it more immersive as it's your imagination doing the conjuring and what could be more interesting than that?!

These podcasts are all free to listen to and if you really like them you have the option to become a patron (via Patreon) of the shows from as little as $1.00 per month! Giving you lots of exclusive and bonus episodes and other extras! The 'NoSleep Podcast' does things a little differently, as they have a 'Season Pass' program (Of which I am a proud s7 & s8 holder...thus far...). A Season contains 25 episodes, each episode contains 5 to 6 stories of which you can freely listen to the first 2 to 3 stories (with creepy and highly original ads), but if you want to hear each full episode, you can purchase a Season Pass, which gives you access to 25 Ad-Free episodes plus bonus episodes exclusive to season pass holders. I will also add that the very special extended Halloween and Christmas episodes are completely free, which means everyone gets to listen to EVERY story in these particular episodes!

'Chilling Tales for Dark Nights' and 'The Simply Scary Podcast' are both part of Chilling Entertainment LLC and they also run a monthly payment plan that has two tiers; Silver and Gold, and an Annual Platinum payment plan. There are loads of extras included with each plan tier, including access to invitation and live events, access to their 'Frightening Films' collection to exclusive platinum only awards and bonus material. You can still listen freely to many episodes from both Chilling Tales via Youtube and Simply Scary Podcast via their website.

'Knifepoint Horror' no longer adds new episodes, but ALL the episodes are still available from their website. So listen away my friends and let yourselves be the judge of the entertainment value. I know you won't be disappointed!

Well all I want to do is share with you some of my favourite Horror Podcasts and let you peeps, be the judge of things. I bet you will never look back and will hopefully have found yourself something to listen to in the car or at night or just whenever and give those eyes some much needed rest while giving your imagination a little (scary) comfort food.

FYI:- I have written this piece out of a love for horror, OTR and Podcasts. I gain no monetary rewards for this and simply express my own personal enthusiasm for the entertainment value that I derive from listening to these shows!
